Bowie

Made for Bowie, this commission is a celebration of colour, rhythm and a little soul who was dancing before he was even born.

The disco ball tells his story: dancing in his mum’s belly and still moving to his own beat today. His love of rainbow colours shaped the palette, while a lightning bolt brought a flash of energy through the piece.

I wanted the colours to move with him. Flowing shapes, shifting shades and layers of texture create a sense of rhythm, giving the artwork its own pulse. Every detail was made to capture something of Bowie — his energy, his individuality and the joy he brings.

I loved making this piece: watching the colours come together, exploring the shading and seeing that movement take shape in yarn. A one-of-a-kind artwork for a one-of-a-kind person, carrying a simple message:

Shine bright like a star, Bowie.
